Azhazha’s main scientific interests cover refining methods for metal; vacuum and supervacuum metallurgy; physics and materials studies of pure and superpurity metals (one of the founders of this field).
Azhazha discovers the phenomenon of magnetic breakdown in ruthenium, gigantic oscillations of the thermomotive electric force, new regularities of influence of trace contaminants and alloying on the characteristics of structural materials of atom energy. He solves the problems of radiation stability and cold brittleness of structural alloys of atomic energy and beryllium. the scientist works out new technologies of producing alloys of zirconium and hafnium for atomic energy of Ukraine.
Azhazha is the author of more than 500 scientific articles, five monographs, more than 30 patents and certificates of invention.
Azhazha is a member of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU). He is an active member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, a member of the section Rare Metals of the scientific board on new materials of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS), scientific board on chemistry and technology of superpurity materials of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academic board Nuclear Fuel Cycle of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine. He is a deputy Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Nuclear Science and Techniques of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” and editor of the series Pure Metals, Vacuum and Superconductors. Vladimir Azhazha is awarded the title of Merited Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2008), is a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (1982), is a laureate of O. I. Leipunskyi Prize of the NASU (2007), awarded the Badge of Honor (1971), medals (1970, 1988), medals and diplomas of the Exhibition of National Economy Achievements of the USSR (1973, 1983).
