Alchevsky is born in Kharkiv. After graduating from gymnasium he studies at Kharkiv University. At first Ivan is taught to sing by his brother, afterwards — in Paris.
In 1901-1905 Ivan Alchevsky is a soloist at Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. He frequently participates in the so-called Russian Seasons in Paris. In 1919-1914 he sings at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
Rare in its beauty and range (heroic tenor), Alchevsky’s voice always attracts attention. He is invited to perform at many opera houses, and tours a lot all over the world. the singer’s repertoire includes heroic, epic, dramatic and lyrical parties, in particular those of Sabinin (Ivan Susanin by Mikhail Glinka), Jose (Carmen by Bizet), and others. Though, the party of Herman from the Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky is considered to be Alchevsky’s visiting card.
